The cost of silence: why I started writing the truth

  So much of this pain is held in my throat and chest. Every time I stayed quiet in a school meeting—hoping it would protect my children—I paid a price. The system didn’t want the truth. It wanted me calm, compliant, careful. But the silence didn’t stop the harm. It just turned it inward. Writing has been one way to begin healing—not because it fixes what happened, but because it stops the corrosion of holding it alone.
